X-ray.pdf

X-ray machines produces X-rays which pass through the body and land on a special digital cassette. The digital cassette contains an image, just as a digital camera does, The cassette is then read by a computer, which generates the image. This image is the X-ray, containing information about the bones, soft tissue and air (lungs / bowel gas).

Preparation

You must have a referral form from a medical practitioner. No appointment is necessary. If you wear light comfortable clothing without buttons, metal zips, buckles or hooks around the area being x-rayed, you may not need to change into a gown.

There is no other preparation required for x-rays. You will be asked to remove jewellery and other metal from the body part we are examining.

All x-ray examinations will be performed by one of our experienced radiographers.
A single examination will take an average of 10 minutes.

You will be asked to lie or stand in different positions while the images are acquired.

Results

Most X-ray results will be ready in less than 1 hour.

You can wait for your results, or you can return and pick up the films and report at a later time.

Norwest Medical Imaging strongly advise that you return to your referring doctor, in order for your doctor to discuss your X-ray report with you.
